Why does the RFC-1/B activate the off/lower control relay when a channel is selected?

This type of problem can be the result of lightning damage to the system. However, there is also a programming option that is meant to provide a contact closure for an external device such as an antenna monitor that will perform this function. It is called the "auto-control relay".

The auto-control relay is documented in the RFC-1/B manual with the channel settings: unit word, scale, etc. It is a fairly common mistake to program an erroneous or illegal value that will activate this feature where it is not intended. The auto-control realy is activated on each channel individually by the fourth memory address for the channel.

Reprogram the data at the appropriate address to correct this behavior. Select the channel number from the list below to retrieve the address. Then select the input tracking to generate the correct data. If in doubt, choose linear tracking.

Channel: Tracking:

At address program the value to disable the auto-control relay.

Here is the procedure step by step. Enter the keystrokes in bold type.

  1. Go online with the RFC-1/B from the local phone
  2. Enter the programming mode: 80
  3. The RFC-1/B will prompt for the advanced programming security code: 4150
  4. The RFC-1/B will prompt for a four digit address. Enter the address shown above.
  5. The RFC-1/B will repeat the address and wait for a command.
  6. Enter the correct value shown above and press the pound key (#): 0# or 1#
  7. Exit the programming mode by pressing the star (*) key: *
  8. Disconnect from the RFC-1/B and hang up: 99
