How to setup telemetry channel readings in the RFC-1/B

Each telemetry channel in the RFC-1 can be programmed with a unit word and a decimal point, the scale can be changed and the method of tracking the input voltage can be changed. There are four memory locations for each channel that determine these characteristics.

  • the first two memory locations identify the unit word spoken after the channel reading
  • the third memory location determines the maximum reading and decimal point location
  • the fourth memory location controls whether a linear or logarithmic scale is used

The programming address table in Appendix A provides a list of all the memory address and their functions. Telemetry channel descriptions occupy addresses 0000-0255 in the table.

Programming instructions are located either in Section 6 of the Installation and Operation manual or in Note 3 of Section 12 in the Software Instruction Book (for earlier systems). To simplify the programming task, the form on this page can generate appropriate values for programming and generate programming instructions.

Enter the requested information in the areas below . The values and adresses will be calculated and displayed at the bottom of the form. Information should update automatically but some browsers will require you to press Tab or Enter to generate a response. This page requires a JavaScript cablable browser.

Channel: (select a channel number from the list)
This is the number of the channel you want to program.

Unit Word or Status Format: (select an item from one list)
The unit word is a one word unit description that will be given after the reading. It is optional. When a unit word is used, the telemetry and status is set automatically.

The channel may be designated as a status channel with options for off/on readings. For status channels, the trip point between low and high readings is equivalent to a telemetry reading 1020 or about half a volt input for a high/on reading. Status channels do not have unit words.

An item followed by a * indicates the factory default setting.

    or

Maximum Reading and Decimal Point: (select a value from the list)
Choose a reading from the list that is larger than the maximum expected channel reading. This sets the scale and decimal point position for the channel.

An item followed by a * indicates the factory default setting.

Tracking (Linear/Logarithmic Scale): (select one)
Telemetry samples follow either a linear scale or a logarithmic scale. The device determines this setting. Most readings are linear. Power readings may be logarithmic. Information for setting up indirect power readings can be found here.

    linear
    logarithmic

Auto Control relay: (select one)
The auto control relay provides an auxiliary contact closure for equipment that requires a switch closure to operate (such as an antenna monitor). When auto control relay is enabled, the off/lower relay will engage whenever the channel is selected. This is not normally enabled.

    enable auto control relay
