| Does the RFC-1/B automatically change the clock for daylight saving time?
RFC-1/B software (firmware) versions 4.x and 5.x do not observe daylight saving time. For stations that adjust power to follow sunrise/sunset that want to program the entire year of changes into the system, there are two working solutions.
The first option is to manually change the clock at the appropriate time and date. This is effective as long as an operator remembers to change the clock at the appropriate time.
The second option is to leave the clock running at standard time all year and compensate for daylight saving time when programming power changes for the months when daylight saving time is in effect. This assumes that the operator that programs the system will apply the necessary intelligence when performing the initial programming. If done correctly, the power changes will occur at the appropriate sunrise and sunset times even though the time clock is technically off by one hour during daylight saving time months. The advantage to this method is that the resulting system is bascially hands-off as long as the initial setup is performed correctly.
When released, software version 6 is expected to have an option for automatic daylight saving time clock adjustment. Naturally we will take into account the changes to daylight saving time that begin in 2007 as a result of the energy bill passed in early 2005.
