Setting up the RFC-1/B for use with a Wireless Link
A wireless telephone can be connected to the RFC-1 in place of a telephone line at sites where a land line is not available. Special equipment is required that emulates a standard telephone line. Several manufacturers of wireless handsets and accessories offer these items. Product lines change rapidly so the best approach is to discuss your needs with your supplier to find a solution that will work. Answering the Incoming Line Some adapters generate a square-wave ring signal on an incoming call instead of the sine-wave ring voltage that is found on a normal telephone line. The RFC-1 has a firmware adjustment that will enable it to recognize the non-standard ring signal. Placing Alarm Calls The RFC-1 is factory programmed to dial using pulse dialing instead of DTMF tones. Some adapters will recognize pulse dialing. RFC-1 systems with software version 5.07 or higher can tone dial. A firmware adjustment is required to use DTMF dialing.
The RFC-1 does not contain a dedicated DTMF generator. Special imprecise DTMF tones are generated by the RFC-1 using the speech processor. These tones have a skewed frequency to compensate for component tolerance. These tones are a workable substitute for a dedicated tone generator in most cases but we cannot guarantee their effectiveness in all cases. Pulse dialing should be used in situations where the imprecise DTMF tones work intermittently or fail entirely. The RFC-1 can also use the tone dialer to activate a pager. In this mode the RFC-1 simply sends a single digit repeatedly to the paging system to identify a particular site. Give each site a different pager ID digit when multiple sites call the same pager. The programming address table in Appendix A of the manual provides a list of all the memory addresses and their functions. The tone/pulse dialing option is set through programming at addresses 0999. 0=pulse, 1=tone. Enable Tone Dialing To enable tone dialing in the RFC-1/B: You will need the advanced programming security code for your RFC-1 system. The factory setting is 4150. Pager Digit Dialing Each telephone number A-F has an individually programmable dialing mode. Typically this should be set to 0 to indicate a voice mode call. The call mode of the telephone number that calls a pager must be adjusted to an appropriate value so that the tone digit will be generated. The table below shows the call options that are available.
The call mode adjustments are made at the following addresses: As an example, suppose you want to set telephone number B to call a pager and send the digit 1 to indicate site "1". Look up the address for the call mode for telephone number B in the list above--this address is 0666. Now look up V1 for the number 1 tone in the table--V1=3 for the 1 tone. You will need the advanced programming security code for your RFC-1 system. The factory setting is 4150. |
